Need to Migrate a large file system to new storage hardware? Intivity can make it happen with zero down time. Intivity tools allow you to rapidly clone the structure and attributes from the source file system. This clone can be mounted in place of the source file system while data is migrated in the background by the Intivity DMcore migration facility. if a non-resident file is accessed, application transparent immediate retrieval is triggered.

Intivity can provide a file system interface as a front-end to a Limitless Archive. Data written to the file system is automatically replicated to one or more archival tiers. Over time, space is reclaimed in the front-end file system based on site specific policies, but the files remain visible and accessible -- if a non resident file is accessed, its data is transparently retrieved from the best available archival tier.
Intivity has a flexible and extensible architecture for supporting different archival tiers. Currently supported archival tiers include file systems and automated tape or sequential media libraries via Intivity's tape management software.
Support for other archival equipment, such as CAS or de-duplication equipment, has been anticipated in the Intivity DMcore architecture, and can be rapidly integrated in the future.

Intivity software supports associating two or more file systems as a federation. The namespace is initially replicated and all file systems in the federation support efficient local I/O to the federated namespace. If a non-resident file is accessed, its data is transparently "sloshed" to the appropriate file system in the federation. When a file is updated, stale copies elsewhere in the federation are automatically purged, and policy at each tier controls whether the data is retrieved immediately or on demand.

By combining storage tiers managed by the Intivity, especially in conjunction with our tape management software, it is possible to build an infinite filespace with one or more sparse file systems as a front end. Files written to a file system are automatically replicated to one or more back-end storage tiers. Once replicated, a file is a candidate to have its disk space released. Accessing a non-resident file triggers automatic, application-transparent retrieval.
Rich policy options control which files are candidates for automatic release when space runs low. In general the automatic release module tries to release the least recently accessed files larger than a configurable size threshold. Files may also be manually scheduled for release or retrieval.
